Baseload Power Taiwan partner for geothermal education and skills development
Baseload Power Taiwan has signed an MOU with universities and research institutions in the field of geology and earth sciences for geothermal energy education.
Baseload Power Taiwan has signed an MOU with eight institutions and universities from the field of geosciences to collaborate on geothermal energy education and talent development in Taiwan. The MOU was signed during the 2023 Annual Geosciences Conference with Van Hoang, Chairman and CEO of Baseload Power Taiwan.
Located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, Taiwan has been known for its abundant geothermal energy, estimated with 40GW in potential. Developing geothermal energy is one of key strategies in Taiwan government’s 2050 Net-Zero path. To speed up geothermal development and build up the local talent and expertise, Baseload Power Taiwan formed this partnership with 8 institutions and universities from Geological Society located in Taipei, Taiwan Geothermal Association, Science and Technology energy in the Research Institute for DE-Carbonziation at NTU, Department of Geological Sciences at NTU, Department of Earth Sciences at NTNU, Department of Geology at CCU, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at NCCU, Department of Resources Engineering at NCKU.
The partnership contains three major areas of cooperation:
- Baseload Power Taiwan provides internship programs intending to bridge the gap between industry and higher education, equip local talents with practical experiences and encourage more young professionals to join in the industry.
- Joint global knowledge sharing and networking activities will be held by all parties, leveraging Baseload’s global platform and experiences as well as academia’s local networks.
- Thirdly, all parties will promote the children’s book – Our Hidden Powers together to raise awareness of geothermal energy toward the public.
Mr. Wen-Shan, Chen, Chairman of the Geological Society located in Taipei, stated that Taiwan has many outstanding experts and talents in the fields of geology and geoscience in Taiwan. As geothermal industry has been emerging in Taiwan, the country needs more local talents and research to participate in the field and connect their expertise to practice.
Van Hoang pointed out that while Baseload Power Taiwan is committed to developing geothermal energy, the company is also willing to dedicate its global network and experiences to local talent building. He added that it would be an honor to empower professionals, foster academia network, and connect global platform to local market with the joint efforts from leading NGOs and universities.
Baseload Power Taiwan is also pleased to share the children’s book – Our Hidden Powers to all parties, expecting to raise more awareness of geothermal energy in a fun and engaging way. The traditional Chinese version is coming soon to the market in June and it will be the first children book introducing geothermal energy in Taiwan.
