Registration open for SPE Geothermal Datathon 2023
The SPE Geothermal Datathon 2023 challenges participants to use data science and machine learning to help solve a design problem based on real-world data.
Registration is currently open for the SPE Geothermal Datathon 2023 being organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers Data Science and Engineering Analytics Technical Section (SPE DSEATS). Interested participants may only register until 13 March 2023.
The geothermal-focused datathon will be done in collaboration with the SPE Gulf Coast Section, US Department of Energy, Utah FORGE, and Project InnerSpace. The event will challenge participants to solve a geothermal engineering problems using modern machine learning methods to create predictive models and aid future geothermal energy production. They will leverage their combined engineering and data skillsets to generate actionable insights to help solve a real-world design problem.
Real field data from the Utah FORGE Project will be used as basis for the datathon. This gives participants the opportunity to work with one of the largest geothermal datasets assembled including data that has never been analyzed before.
Participating teams should have at least 1 member but not more than 7 members. The event is also looking for volunteers, sponsors, and subject matter experts. More details on these opportunities and the rules of the event are available on the official event page.
Last year’s version of the GEO DATATHON was held as part of the annual PIVOT “From Hydrocarbons to Heat” Gathering.
