Lithuania’s State Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) will launch a tender for the development of a 700 MW offshore wind project in the Baltic Sea on 30 March 2023.

The subsidy-free offshore wind park will be located about 36 km from the Lithuanian coast and is expected to be installed by 2028. The generated power is estimated to ensure up to a quarter of Lithuania’s total electricity demand.

The tender is expected to be won by the developer who offers the highest development fee to the Lithuanian State. The winner of the tender will also be responsible for connecting the project to the onshore power transmission network.

An additional tender for the development of another similarly sized offshore wind project is scheduled to be announced in the autumn of 2023. Both offshore wind parks would provide about half of Lithuania’s current electricity demand.
