Hexicon eyes 1.3GW-plus floating offshore wind farm in Taiwan

It is unclear whether the project will be built in one or in multiple phases.
Hexicon has developed a semi-submersible twin-rotor platform – TwinWind – comprising a triangular shaped lattice-steel structure with single-point mooring and two upwind turbines per foundation. These units are mounted on outward-facing inclined towers and operate in equal, clockwise rotational mode.
Hexicon declined to confirm that the project would use its TwinWind platform.
The Swedish company is helping to develop a 17GW pipeline of floating offshore wind projects worldwide.
Consultancy and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) management firm IX Wind is part of the Dutch IX Renewables group. It has been active in Taiwanese offshore wind since 2012, and helped with the country’s first offshore wind farm.
Taiwan has already made moves in offshore wind using fixed-bottom foundations, and has also announced plans for small-scale floating tenders.
Developers including RWE, BlueFloat Energy and BW Ideol have also set their sights on projects using floating platforms in Taiwanese waters.
