RWE wins bid confirms Federal Network Agency

RWE subsidiary Renewables Offshore Holdco Four GmbH has been awarded the contract for the construction of offshore wind farms with a capacity of 980 MW in the North Sea.

This was confirmed by the Federal Network Agency.

The bidding deadline was 1 September 2022. The subject of the tender was an area located in the German North Sea (N-7.2) off the island of Borkum (energate reported). The highest possible award value was 6.4 cents/kWh. In fact, however, RWE succeeded with a zero-cent bid.

Klaus Müller, President of the Federal Network Agency, commented: “The zero-cent bid continues to confirm the attractiveness of investing in offshore wind energy in Germany. It shows that companies expect to be able to market wind power profitably.”

The tender was carried out according to the so-called ‘central model’. This also gives the successful bidder the right to apply to the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency for planning approval for construction on the site. At the same time, he must subsequently pay for the costs of the preliminary investigations.

According to the grid agency, the project developer who originally wanted to realise an offshore wind farm at the site has a right to enter the tendered area. This developer, Vattenfall Atlantis 1 and Global Tech 2 Offshore Wind GmbH, has the right to enter the tender until 31 October 2022.
