Ørsted and TotalEnergies enter Dutch zero-subsidy offshore wind tender
Danish developer Ørsted and energy giant TotalEnergies have entered the Netherlands’ 1.4GW, zero-subsidy offshore wind tender.
They are bidding for both sites – Site VI and Site VII – in the Hollandse Kust West zone, which is located approximately 53km off the west coast of the Netherlands.
Bids for Site VI require investments for innovations that benefit the Dutch energy system, while bids for Site VII require ecologically beneficial measures.
TotalEnergies stated that it would use output from the Hollandse Kust West project to power 600MW of electrolysis capacity to help it decarbonise the Netherlands’ Zeeland province.
It is not clear Ørsted and TotalEnergies will be equal partners in project development and ownership.
Ørsted and TotalEnergies will face competition from BP, SSE Renewables, as well as partnerships of Vattenfall and BASF and Shell and Eneco, which have also announced plans to bid in the upcoming tenders, which close on 14 May.
The Dutch government is due to announce winners this autumn.
