The world’s largest Vibro Lifting Tool (VLT), owned by Dutch vibro-piling specialist CAPE Holland, has been transported over the Christmas period from Breman Machinery in Genemuiden to Rotterdam.

CAPE Holland was awarded the contract by Seaway 7 to supply the VLT for the installation of the monopile foundations for Kaskasi OWF.

The problem is that the installation vessel Seaway Strashnov, due to some unexpected technical difficulties, has suffered a considerable delay on the current installation campaign Hollandse Kust Zuid. 34 out of the 140 monopile foundations were installed, falling short of the target set for 2021.

The second campaign should start at the beginning of March, with the installation of the remaining 106 monopiles.

Kaskasi field developer RWE had planned to start the construction works on the project the third quarter of 2021 with the start of operations expected in 2022.

As this planning has become unfeasible, the RWE project team is using this winter period to prepare for a possible new installation alternative.
