New Japanese owner and Nordex turbines for 300MW wind farm in Texas

The order includes a five-year service contract for turbines.

Jera is a joint venture between Tokyo Electric Power Group and the Chubu Electric Power Group, which supplies 30% of Japan’s electricity. Yesterday (2 December), it announced it has concluded a stock purchase agreement with El Sauz’s developer, Apex Clean Energy, to acquire 100% of the project.

Construction will begin in early 2022, with operation scheduled to start in the last quarter of the year.

In 2020, Jera established Jera Renewables NA, under Jera Americas, to develop 2GW of renewable energy projects in the US. Globally, Jera is aiming for a 5GW renewables portfolio. El Sauz will be its first to start operating in the US.

“This project marks the beginning of what we plan to be a substantial and growing commitment to renewables in [Texas] and across the country,” said Jera Americas CEO Steven Winn.
