Listed: For $1.5 million, a net-zero-energy home in South Boston – Boston.com
With solar panels and a heated garage with a Tesla charger, the single-family home at 6 Kemble Place isn’t something you see every day in South Boston.
The net-zero-energy tri-level home hit the market on Nov. 10 for $1,500,000, listed by Christina Guibas of Coldwell Banker Realty. A number of features in the high-tech home can be controlled with apps, including the solar panels and the garage door, Guibas said. Want to monitor the 1,580-square-foot home’s energy input and output? There’s an app for that, too. “The home is fueled entirely by electricity, paid for in full by the home’s own energy production,” the listing reads, noting that the home has heat pumps.
The first floor of the three-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom property is home to the one-car heated garage, a bedroom the seller utilizes as office space, and a full bathroom that offers a single vanity topped with a vessel sink, a standalone shower, and tile floors. Sliders lead out to the backyard, which is artificial turf, according to the listing.
There are two ways to get to the second floor: stairs indoors and a spiral staircase outdoors. Upstairs, sliders open from the balcony into the living room, which shares an open floor plan with the kitchen and dining area. The kitchen has quartz countertops and white Italian cabinets, an induction stove, and a convection oven. The second level also has a half bathroom with a skylight. The floors throughout most of the home are matte red oak.
The stairway leading up to the third level, where the other two bedrooms are located, has glass panels under the matte red oak banister. The owner bedroom features a big three-paned window, a double cedar closet, and a cast-iron wood-burning fireplace from Canada, Guibas said.
The owner bathroom comes with a vanity that has two vessel sinks and a quartz countertop, a bidet, a heated towel rack, a skylight, and a standalone shower with three heads. A pocket door hides the washer and dryer.
Efficiency and amenities aside, the home is a great place to entertain, Guibas said. “The garage really seconds as an entertaining-overflow space. If you moved your car, you could set up a buffet table or something like that, or just have 50 people down there with drinks, really flowing between the backyard of the spiral staircase and on the balcony.”
As of press time, the home was under agreement.
