Chameleon Technology acquires GenGame in ‘next milestone’ for home energy optimisation platform plans – Current News
GenGame is to become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chameleon Technology as part of the latter’s plans to provide consumers with a platform for intelligent, optimised control over their home energy system.
Chameleon Technology said the acquisition represents an acceleration of its roadmap, bringing together enhanced capability to deliver value to consumers through enabling low carbon technologies that are driven by real-time energy data insights.
GenGame – a spin out from a three-year government funded project with Northern PowerGrid – focuses on enabling domestic flexibility using its app product suite.
The acquisition is to help it to scale and commercialise its offering. It will still be based in Leicester, with all of its staff remaining in place with Stephane Lee-Favier as managing director.
It is currently developing a Home & Roam electric vehicle (EV) charging solution in collaboration with Paua Tech and Evergreen Energy, with this to enable drivers to smart charge their EV at home for the lowest prices and easily access public charging via a single app.
It was also part of the Flexibly-Responsive Energy Delivery (FRED) trial, which recently published its findings, including that smart charging can reduce the cost of supplying electricity by 26%.
Mike Woodhall, CEO, Chameleon Technology, said: “We are aiming to make the management of home energy smarter, simpler, greener and more personalised. GenGame’s experience in delivering applications that demystify some of the complexity of the energy system is going to be a big part of this.”
