BlueFloat Energy and Sener plan floating wind farm to connect to grid at thermal plant site

Floating specialist BlueFloat Energy and aerospace engineering company Sener are planning a new 300MW floating offshore wind farm off southern Spain.

It would connect to the grid via the existing infrastructure at a soon to be closed thermal power plant.

The wind farm could also help to power Caldererías Indálicas’ proposed green hydrogen plant in Almería. Caldererías Indálicas’ facilities could also be utilised in the manufacture of parts of the floating substructures.

Mar de Ágata could comprise 20 turbines, each with a power rating of 15MW and tip heights of approximately 261 metres.

Analyses of the project’s technical and environmental impacts have been undertaken, aimed at minimising the effects on local fishing activity and other maritime traffic. 

BlueFloat and Sener are also planning to develop up to 1GW of floating capacity off Catalonia.
