Samsung SmartThings Energy Aims to Make Monitoring Home Energy Use Easy – PCMag

Energy Disrupter

Samsung announced the release of a new service today called SmartThings Energy in a bid to give you more control over energy use in your smart home.

SmartThings Energy will be the newest addition to the SmartThings app, allowing users to control their energy consumption with monitoring, target-setting, and notifications regarding their Samsung appliances and HVAC systems. The desired result is real-time data and analysis of a home’s energy consumption.

“People are spending more time at home and using their appliances more frequently, driving a need for larger capacity and better energy efficiency,” said Chanwoo Park, vice president and head of IoT business group at Samsung Electronics. “Our consumers want to be part of building a better, more eco-friendly tomorrow, and we are proud to help them achieve that vision by offering a more energy-efficient smart home experience.”

With SmartThings Energy, users can check their electricity usage from a single device or aggregated usage from multiple compatible devices. In addition, you can receive energy saving tips based on the devices that are connected as well as user-friendly charts to understand your energy usage.

SmartThings is a home automation company that became a Samsung subsidiary in 2014. The IoT platform supports and is compatible with thousands of devices across hundreds of brands. PCMag has reviewed Samsung SmartThings devices in the past, including SmartThings WiFi, Smart Plug, and Cam.
