Siemens Gamesa wins first deal for 3.4MW Indian wind turbine

Energy Disrupter

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has secured its first order for its SG 3.4-145 turbine, which it specifically developed to further boost the company’s presence in India.

The 301MW order for an undisclosed wind farm and customer in Karnataka is the company’s first order for the turbine since it launched the 3.4MW model in July 2020.

It will supply 87 turbines to the wind farm, which is due to be commissioned by March 2023.

The customer requested that it not be named, according to a filing with the Spanish stock market exchange.

Siemens Gamesa launched the SG 3.4-145 with a flexible power rating of up to 3.6MW one year ago. The manufacturer claimed the turbine would be capable of delivering 48% more annual energy production than its predecessor in India, the SG 2.2-122.

It has blade factories in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, as well as a nacelle factory in Tamil Nadu, and will only produce the model in India.

Siemens Gamesa supplied the highest share of newly commissioned wind turbine capacity in India in both 2020 and 2019.
