Vestas boosts EnVentus onshore wind platform to 6.2MW

Vestas has boosted the rated capacity of its EnVentus onshore wind turbine to 6.2MW for the first time for a 192MW order in Finland.

It achieved the increase in power rating by advances in load assessment and minor hardware upgrades.

The Danish manufacturer expects the V162-6.2MW turbine to have an annual energy production up to 1.5% greater than that of the 6MW standard power rating for its EnVentus platform.

It will supply 31 V162-6.2MW turbines for the 192MW Lappfjärd wind farm being developed and built by CPC Germania.

Vestas will deliver the turbines to the site 100km south of Vaasa on the west coast of Finland in the second quarter of 2022, and is due to begin installation by the end of the same quarter. The project is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2023.

Vestas will also service the project for 20 years.

“The first deployment of Vestas’ V162-6.2 MW in Finland at Lappfjärd is testament to both the continuous optimisation of the EnVentus platform as well as the relentless technical value engineering on behalf of customers,” said Jan Hagen, regional chief technology officer of Vestas’ northern and central Europe unit.

Since launching the medium-speed geared platform in January 2019, Vestas has received nearly 1.4GW of orders for its EnVentus turbines in Finland.
