Success for deep geothermal direct use project in Southeast Spain
A project in Spain successfully drilled a deep geothermal well to 2,000 m depth with 105 degrees Celsius for direct use purposes with additional work planned.
Spanish company Cardial Recursos Alternativos reports having completed its first survey in the Tristanes area, in the heart of Campo de Níjar (Almería), reaching consolidated records of 105 degrees C at a depth of 2,000 meters. The next survey will drop to 2,500 meters, for which it already has drilling permits from the Junta de Andalucía, as reported by GeoPlat from Spain. Geoplat is a platform for technology and innovation for geothermal energy in Spain.
In its first phase, the Cardial project is aimed at air conditioning greenhouses . The two surveys, extraction and reinjection, are in the main organic fruit and vegetable production area in southern Spain, next to the Cabo de Gata Níjar Natural Park, so their commissioning represents a considerable added value to the product that it will leave the Almeria garden using only geothermal and solar energy in its production process.
The know-how acquired in this first survey has allowed the company to generate a process model with which to complete the following drilling in just 100 days, still reaching 2,500 meters. “We have learned a lot from the first experience, from the means we can count on in our environment. We have also trained local suppliers to provide day-to-day solutions in a job that was totally new to them, so now we are in a position to execute our expansive plan to reach the largest number of hectares possible as soon as possible . The important thing was to find a resource until now unexplored in the province of Almería and that we have already been able to verify. Now it’s time to start exploiting it ”, they say from Cardial in Almería.
Cardial has an important investment partner for the geothermal adventure in Almería, it is the CYOPSA Group , which has been working for more than 25 years for both public and private entities in the renewable energy sectors, construction of civil works of large infrastructures, concessions and housing promotion. “We were lucky enough to find investors who were willing to make the leap towards an energy that, although it is a natural resource that has always been there, has shown a lot to emerge both due to the lack of a clear regulatory framework, as well as the need to no less a short period of exploration. Now we can assure what we were already convinced of, and that is that in a few months we will be able toto serve clean energy to the ecological agriculture of Almería “.
