Petronas has taken drillship Maersk Viking for single firm well on F13 (Meboun) block

Energy Disrupter

Kuala Lumpur-headquartered Petronas has chartered a Maersk Drilling rig as it sets its sights on an ultra-deepwater wildcat on one of its blocks offshore Gabon.

The firm one-well contract with PC Gabon Upstream, a Petronas subsidiary, is set to start in the third quarter of this year after the unit has completed a one-well commitment with Korea National Oil Corporation in South Korea.

The well will be drilled in about 2100 metres of water.

Petronas has made the Boudji gas discovery on its Block F14 (Likuale) offshore Gabon. The discovery was made in 2800 metres of water, hitting 90 metres of gross high-quality hydrocarbon-bearing pre-salt sands in Gamba and Dentale horizons.
