Energy Disrupter

Nordex’s turbine orders fell 24% year on year in the first quarter of 2021.

The manufacturer received orders for 279 turbines with a combined capacity of 1,247MW – down from 1,644MW one year earlier.

Nordex secured turbine purchase agreements for 1,151MW in ten European countries – traditionally its strongest regional market. However, this total was down 11% from the Q1 tally for Europe in 2020.

Spain, Turkey, Germany and Finland were the company’s largest individual markets in Q1 2021. It also received orders in Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, France, and Lithuania.

The manufacturer received just one order beyond Europe in the first three months of the year: a 96MW order in Mexico. Last year, it had booked 352MW in Latin America – which has traditionallly been a strong market for the Nordex Acciona Group since its merger.

Its Delta 4000 series – with power ratings of 4MW and above – accounted for 903MW of orders, or 73% of total capacity ordered. This share was down 12 percentage points from the previous year.

Nordex CEO José Luis Blanco said: “In addition to the N149, the success of the Delta4000 series is also increasingly based on the other rotor variants N133, N155 and N163, which allows us to cover all wind classes.”
