Fryslân dispatches first power

Energy Disrupter

The first of 89 Siemens Gamesa turbines has delivered power from the 383MW Fryslân offshore wind farm in the IJsselmeer Lake in the Netherlands.

Fryslân comprises 130-4.3MW machines, with heights of 180 metres and rotor diameters of 130 metres.

All the turbines are due to be installed by June this year.

When completed the wind farm will supply about 1.5 terrawatt-hours of electricity a year.

The 382.7 MW Windpark Fryslân is the world’s largest wind farm in inland fresh waters and will produce around 1.5 TWh of electricity annually, which corresponds to the energy consumption of approximately 500,000 households.
