Funding available for geothermal use of municipalities in Bulgaria
Under an EEA Grant program, municipalities can apply for funding for the use of geothermal energy for heating and cooling applications in state or municipal buildings.
The Ministry of Energy announces a call for project proposals under the procedure “Use of geothermal energy for heating or for heating and cooling in state or municipal buildings”, funded by the program “Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Energy Security” of the Financial Mechanism of the European Union economic space 2014-2021.
The procedure is worth a total of EUR3.4m. Municipal administrations and state institutions can apply for it. Each of the projects can be financed with an amount between EUR 200,000 and EUR400,000, and the grant fully covers the cost of the project. The deadline for applying for the procedure is September 10, 2021, and the full conditions for it can be found in the Information System for Management and Monitoring of EU Funds in Bulgaria (UMIS).
The funding is implemented under the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2020 and is funded under the EEA Grants program. It is implemented in partnership with the Norwegian Water and Energy Directorate (NVE) and the National Energy Authority of Iceland.
The grants are to support reconstruction of existing systems or installing new heating or combined heating and cooling systems. Target capacity for projects is 5 MW in total. Projects cannot exceed 18 months and must end by April 30, 2024. Further details via the link below.
