Saint-Nazaire first wind farm to use drilled XL-monopile foundations

DEME Offshore has achieved a key milestone in the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm project as the tailormade subsea drill, jointly designed with Herrenknecht, is commissioned on schedule following successful Factory Acceptance Tests on September 30.

Saint-Nazaire will be the first wind farm in the world to use drilled XL-monopile foundations. Never seen before in the industry, this unique subsea drill embodies our expertise in soil mechanics and offshore engineering. It will be deployed from DEME Offshore’s installation vessel ‘Innovation’.

A consortium including DEME Offshore and Eiffage Métal was awarded the EPCI contract for the 80 foundations for the 480 MW wind farm in 2019.
