Energy Disrupter

Corporate documentary/GER 2011/11.30 min.

Solar power as a mission statement for the 21st century: In view of ongoing climate change, it is vital that new approaches are developed in architecture, building technology and the supply of energy. The developing field of renewable energies in Africa has recently witnessed the realisation of a groundbreaking pilot project by Energiebau Solarstromsysteme GmbH on the roof of the new UN Environment Programme (UNEP) office building in Nairobi, Kenya. The 4,000 solar modules on the roof supply the building with sufficient energy for its 1,200 employees using a clean, durable and cost-efficient method. The rapidly expanding city of Nairobi with its 3.5 million inhabitants has a huge and constantly growing energy demand. In the future, high-quality solar technology will be able to meet this energy requirement. The film ‘Nairobi 515 – Solar power against climate change’ reports on this groundbreaking flagship project.
