Job – University Assistant at Chair of Reservoir Engineering, Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria
The Chair of Reservoir Engineering at the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Montanuniversität Leoben in Austria, is looking for an outstanding PhD student in the fields of fluid dynamics in porous media and data science. The position refers to digital rock physics and its implementation in stochastic reservoir modeling. The candidate should be a team player, highly motivated and should have experience in digital rock physics, pore-scale physics and/or stochastic reservoir modeling. Programming skills and knowledge in machine learning are advantageous.
The aim of the project is to investigate uncertainties and sensitivities of multi-phase flow functions on predictions through reservoir modeling. How can digital rock physics and SCAL be used to define probability distributions of saturation functions? How can these data complement petrophysical data as an input for stochastic reservoir models? Possible applications include enhanced oil recovery, geological CO2 sequestration, geothermal reservoirs etc.
Requirements: MSc in Reservoir Engineering, Physics or a related field.
Desired skills and motivation: In-depth expertise in fluid dynamics and displacement processes in porous media. Advanced numerical skills are desired, experimental skills are advantageous. The candidate is expected to actively advance the research project in a goal-oriented manner. The prerequisites are a high degree of motivation, curiosity and the ability to work in a team. The candidate will be involved in teaching activities.
Opportunities: Dissertation preparation, publications in scientific journals, an international work environment with in international cooperation.
