GDC kicking of exploration at Korosi geothermal prospect part of Baringo-Silali project in Kenya
Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has embarked on exploration drilling at the Korosi Geothermal Prospect, the second field in the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project, located in Baringo County in the Rift Valley Region of Kenya. This comes after successfully drilling three (3) exploration wells at the first prospect, Paka.
Three (3) exploration wells will be drilled in Korosi to ascertain the availability of the resource, before embarking on appraisal and production drilling thereafter. The GDC Drilling and Infrastructure crew is currently working tirelessly on the rig up process in Korosi.
The Korosi Prospect has an estimated geothermal potential of more than 600MW and the commencement of drilling at the Prospect is a huge milestone for GDC. The Korosi prospect is expected to impact the host community in the region positively, as it will open up the area for various socio- economic activities.
The Baringo-Silali Block has three (3) prospects; namely Paka, Korosi and Silali with an estimated potential of 3,000MW which will be developed in phases. The first phase will develop 100MW from each prospect.
