Rutgers Cooperative Extension presents Earth Day Every Day webinar series – The Daily Journal
Rutgers Cooperative Extension will present the fall sessions of the Earth Day Every Day webinar series, formerly Earth Day at Home, beginning Sept. 14. The live, interactive sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. and last for one hour. To join you need a computer, tablet or smartphone with speakers. Sessions are provided via Webex.
The sessions focus on steps everyone can take to protect the environment. Everyone can take actions that make their homes more sustainable, from environmentally-friendly lawn care, to recycling, to conducting a home energy audit.

- Winterizing Your Home for Maximum Energy Efficiency, Sept. 14: Michele Calabrese, outreach account manager with New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program, will share information on how to winterize your home to save energy, money and the environment.
- Collecting Native Seeds: Sow Much to Know!, Sept. 21: Angela Monaghan, Rutgers Master Gardener Coordinator for Middlesex County, will share information regarding native seed collection and sowing seeds for next year’s garden.
- Fall Lawn Care the Earthwise Way, Sept. 28: Fertilizing, overseeding and top dressing with compost are all best done in the fall when weeds are going dormant. Learn how to reap the benefits of fall lawn care with Bill Hlubik, professor and agriculture agent with Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County.
- RU Wildlife Wise: Defensive Driving to Avoid Wildlife, Oct. 5: Learn how to avoid being part of the national and state statistics on wildlife-vehicle collisions with Kathleen Kerwin, program associate with the Rutgers Wildlife Conservation and Management Program.
- What’s an energy audit and do you need one?, Oct. 13: An energy efficiency assessment does more than help you save energy. It increases your personal comfort, makes your home healthier/safer and increases the value of your home. Join Sandi Eisner, outreach account manager with New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program, to learn the what, how and why of a home energy efficiency assessment as well as how to save energy and money.
- Ten Ways to Adapt to Coastal Flooding, Oct. 19: Government agencies and other organizations are helping coastal communities prepare for sea-level rise and adapt to increased flooding. Learn about these initiatives and 10 steps residents can take to prepare their homes and help increase their communities’ resilience to flooding and climate change with Vanessa Dornisch, coastal training program coordinator at the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve.
- RU Wildlife Wise: Demystifying Iconic Halloween Animals, Oct. 26: Join Evan Drake, PhD candidate with the Rutgers Wildlife Conservation and Management Program, to learn how and why animals including bats, ravens and snakes became associated with Halloween.
- Basics of Recycling, Nov. 2: Recycling remains as one of the easiest ways individuals can make a difference that benefits the environment. Join Amy Cook-Menzel, communications manager with the Atlantic County Utility Authority, to learn what happens when your recyclables leave the curb.
