ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – HeatSmart Tompkins says now’s as good a time as ever to save money by making your home energy efficient.

Director Lisa Marshall says New York’s broadening its threshold for the Assisted Home Performance Program. Typically families earning 80% of median income qualify, now that number’s 120%.

“That means a family of four here in Tompkins County making $115,000 a year. Those are folks aren’t used to qualifying for state aid. They can qualify for up to a $5,000 state grant to improve their home’s energy efficiency. And sometimes that money can also be applied toward heat pumps,” said Lisa Marshall of HeatSmart Tompkins.

The mission of HeatSmart Tompkins – to cut fossil fuel consumption by conserving energy usage in the home.
