Winneshiek Energy District Farm Energy Planner Joel Zook spoke via Zoom on Tuesday about ways to reduce home energy costs based on his own experience as a homeowner in Decorah. The talk was part of Winneshiek Energy District’s monthly Lunch & Learn sessions, which are free and open to the public.
Zook suggested several ways to effectively lower home energy costs, which in his case, resulted in significant savings. One of the easiest things to do to reduce costs, suggests Zook, is to change out older CFL light bulbs for the newer LED bulbs. This simple energy-saving task is often noted during a Winneshiek Energy District home energy assessment. This assessment identifies ways in which the homeowner can improve their energy efficiency, and in doing so, lower their monthly utility bills.
